Description

ACCT614 seeks to provide students with a thorough introduction to the principal assumptions that underpin the development of research ideas in accounting, information systems and related disciplines. More particularly, it seeks to expose students to the theoretical and philosophical foundations of knowledge and reality. You will also be introduced to both quantitative and qualitative research methods.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the course, you should be able to:
1. Demonstrate a significant increase in your appreciation of key issues in research published in the academic literature.
2. Demonstrate a scholar’s awareness of accounting, tax and information systems as areas for advanced study and research.
3. Demonstrate critical and analytical ability in various contexts.
4. Demonstrate a significant improvement in your written and oral presentation skills.
5. Actively lead and participate in discussion and debate of issues concerning the foundations of knowledge and reality in the social sciences.
6. Design, carry out, analyse and write up a piece of accounting, auditing, accountability, plublic finance, taxation or law research.
7. Design, carry out, analyse and write up a piece of qualitative research.
8. Design, carry out, analyse and write up a piece of quantitative research.
