This course will be taught in te reo Maori and will examine areas of wellbeing, hinengaro, tinana, wairua and whanau. Mana Atua will focus on Maori success, empowering the mana of each individual to carve out their own pathway according to strengths, as well as characteristics of leadership. Preservice kaiako will analyse the responsibilities, service professional, cultural and ethical elements of becoming a leader within kaupapa Maori education as well as explore traditional Maori leadership and leadership in today’s society.
On the successful completion of this course, students will be able to:1. Research and articulate various styles of indigenous (and wider) leadership and explain how these might be enacted to affirm mana motuhake in education (hinengaro, wairua).2. Illustrate how you will work with tamariki, ākonga, whānau, hapū and iwi to understand and reach individual and whānau aspirations towards success in its most holistic form (whānau, whakapapa). 3. Investigate, practice, and reflect different areas of Māori success within a kaupapa Māori lens (wairua, hinengaro). 4. Analyse the cultural, professional and ethical elements of leadership including service, care, humility and other responsibilities (wairua, hinengaro, whānau).
