This course will be taught in te reo Maori. This course explores a range of marau and teaching and learning contexts including Pasifika contexts. Interdisciplinary learning in conjunction with Hangarau Matihiko will be explored. Pre-service kaiako enrolled in this course will have had experiences in both early childhood and primary contexts and will connect their learning in Te Puna Marautanga 3 to the particular sector they are interested in teaching in as a graduate of the Matauranga Maori endorsement.
On the successful completion of this course, students will be able to:1. Demonstrate and apply knowledge of how to teach in an interdisciplinary manner incorporating/ through hangarau matihiko.2. Demonstrate and apply knowledge of Pasifika values and competencies to empower Pasifika communities and aiga through interdisciplinary teaching and learning experiences. 3. Explore and analyse the commonalities and intricacies of kaupapa Māori education in reference to wider culturally empowering practices in education. 4. Apply knowledge of hangarau matihiko and English as an additional/ subsequent language.
