This course will be taught in te reo Maori. This course explores a range of marau and aromatawai linked to Maori medium contexts. Interdisciplinary learning intertwining all curriculum areas (kaupapa based learning) will be explored with a strong focus on putaiao and nga toi and pre-service kaiako will experience planning for putaiao and nga toi within early childhood and primary contexts.
On the successful completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. Demonstrate an understanding of a range marau and aromatawai in both puna kōhungahunga and kura tuatahi Māori contexts. 2. Demonstrate and apply knowledge of how to teach ngā toi and pūtaiao in Māori medium early childhood and primary contexts using mātauranga Māori as the foundation for learning. 3. Use pūrākau to demonstrate ākonga progression and celebrate ākonga successes through the medium of te reo Māori. 4. Enact tikanga Māori by giving back to the local hapori either through an act of service linked to Pūtaiao or through the gifting of mahi toi to an appropriate rōpū.
