This full-year course introduces pre-service teachers to what it means to be a teacher in the primary school sector in Aotearoa New Zealand. It explores theories and models of professional identity, professional learning and the expectations of conduct and integrity required to be a member of the teaching profession. It examines the teacher’s role in establishing and maintaining a learning culture that supports diversity and inclusion. There are five teaching practice placement days that are part of the workload for this course. Students are required to attend these days. This course will complement learning in other courses in the Ako Bachelor of Teaching and Learning (Primary).
