This course introduces pre-service teachers to theories and models of reflection that support practice and the development of the self as a co-learner. It explores how the Code of Professional Responsibility can support decision making and the implementation of safe practices when faced with ethical dilemmas. It examines ways to notice and understand learners and develop strategies for adapting practice within an inclusive curriculum. This course will complement learning in other courses in the Bachelor of Teaching and Learning (Primary).
On the successful completion of this course, students will be able to:1. Analyse theories and models of reflection that support professional learning 2. Describe how teacher identity theory enables pre-service teachers to sustain themselves as learners 3. Develop an understanding of how the Code of Professional Responsibility guides decision making related to safe practice when faced with ethical dilemmas 4. Demonstrate an understanding of culturally responsive and evidence-based approaches that reflect the local community and Te Tiriti o Waitangi partnership in New Zealand
