The purpose of this compulsory zero credit course is to provide the students with a carefully structured induction to tertiary learning and teacher education. This course supports our core UC values of manaakitanga, by empowering our students; tiakitanga, by valuing and nurturing our new students; and whanaungatanga by developing learning partnerships with our students. The course encourages students to access current UC support facilities, such as Academic Skills Centre, in order to maximise their opportunity to succeed at UC.
1. Understand your identity in relationship to your engagement at UC (Taha whenua)2. Expand relationships to personal and professional colleagues, support services, and community through a UC programme (Taha whānau) 3. Engage in skills development related to tertiary learning (Taha hinengaro)4. Understand the resources that are available to support physical well-being (Taha tinana)5. Explore the connection between the environment, people and heritage in past, present, and future (Taha wairua)
Students must attend one activity from each section.
