Description

This course will provide pre-service teachers with an understanding of the historical context of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and the implications across time and place. Reflecting on personal development in relation to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and making connections with emerging pedagogical practice are fundamental to the course.

Learning Outcomes

On the successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
1. Describe the historical context of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and its implications for contemporary  education in Aotearoa New Zealand
2. Identify the differences between Te Tiriti o Waitangi and the Treaty of Waitangi across time and contexts with a view to its pedagogical implications
3. Compare and contrast Te Tiriti o Waitangi with the experiences of other indigenous groups internationally
4. Reflect on ongoing personal development in relation to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and emerging pedagogical practice
