Description

This course will be taught in English and at times in te reo Maori. This course aims to develop the pronunciation and increase the fluency of pre-service teachers in te reo Maori and will provide a range of conversational and contextual opportunities to engage in te reo Maori appropriate for the ECE and primary education sectors and beyond. Kaiako will be able to demonstrate an understanding of te reo Maori me nga tikanga-a-iwi applicable to a variety of learning contexts, and informal contexts with whanau and community.

Learning Outcomes

On the successful completion of this course, pre-service teachers will be able to:
1. Demonstrate proficiency in Māori language pronunciation.
2. Communicate at a beginner level in te reo Māori.
3. Make links between key concepts in Māori culture and tikanga ā-iwi and the practice of teaching.
4. Demonstrate increasing confidence and competence to use te reo Māori me ngā tikanga Māori authentically in teaching practice.
