This course explores complex notions of whanaungatanaga, whanau and community. Students will actively engage with whanau/community in order to discover implications for education, teaching and self as an emerging teacher. Through the course, students will critique teachers’ professional responsibilities and commitment to whanau community.
On the successful completion of this course, pre-service teachers will be able to:1. Explain the complexities associated with the concepts of whanaungatanga, whānau, community and implications for educational decision making.2. Critically reflect on active engagement within a whānau/community context and the implications for self as an emerging teacher.3. Examine the interconnection between teachers, teaching, whānau and community in an Aotearoa New Zealand context
