Description

This course examines Maori world views from both traditional and contemporary perspectives of teaching and learning and their relevance to a broad range of early childhood educational contexts. Conversant and confident applications of written te reo Maori me ona tikanga within assessment practices is an essential foci for this course. Through acknowledging the unique place of Maori as tangata whenua this provides pathways for you to implement bicultural curricula collaboratively with whanau, hapu and iwi.

Learning Outcomes

On the successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
1. Critically examine a range of kaupapa Māori ethical principles and articulate how these can lead to working collaboratively with tamariki Māori and their whānau.
2. Articulate the holistic nature of Māori worldviews of teaching and learning theories, how these support Kaiako perceptions and employment of kaupapa Māori ways of being, ways of doing and ways of knowing within teaching, learning and assessment processes and practices.
3. Exhibit increased competence and confidence in the employment of te reo Māori me ōna tikanga within both oral and written language modes.

Prerequisites

30 points from 100 level AKOE or AKOM
