This course will analyse the negotiation of power relations inherent in definitions and suggested solutions for controlling individuals and groups in the United States, beginning with the Puritans and the Salem witch trials, McCarthyism in the 1950's, the medical and therapeutic industries, and ending with an examination of hackers and the computer antivirus industry.
