Description

Principles of genetics including molecular, cytological, classical, developmental and population genetics with reference to micro-organisms, plants and animals.

Learning Outcomes

  • Understanding the structure of DNA, how genetic information is transferred and interpreted by a cell, what are genes and how genes are switched on and off.
  • In the practical classes, you will gain experience in preparing chromosomes for analysis, modern molecular genetic techniques for the analysis of gene functions.

Prerequisites

BIOL111 and BIOL112 and either BIOL113 or CHEM114.
Concurrent enrolment in one of the three (BIOL) prerequisite courses may be approved by the Head of the School of Biological Sciences.
