The scientific method; atoms, molecules, the chemical bond and the periodic table; materials; ideal gas laws; thermodynamics; chemical equilibria; electrochemistry; physical equilibria; kinetics.

Chang, Raymond; Chemistry ; 9th edition; McGraw-Hill, 2007.

The 8th and 7th editions are acceptable and a number of copies are held on reserve in the Physical Sciences Library.  The bookshop sells the text to students at a discounted price.
(The study guide to Chang is also available at the bookshop, however the Problems Manual, which you will receive when you purchase your laboratory manual, should provide sufficient exercises and supplementary material for most students.)
