Description

The objective of the course is to combine the development of students' creative writing with the practical skills and dramaturgic techniques of writing for film.

This course provides students with an introduction to screenwriting craft and practice. It aims to combine the development of students’ creative writing with the practical skills and dramaturgical techniques of writing for the screen.

Learning Outcomes

  • Students will learn to:
  • Format a screenplay to a professional standard;
  • Make use of narrative techniques and conventions specific to screenwriting, and write visually for the screen;
  • Analyse films and screenplays, and provide constructive critique to others;
  • Develop their own creative practice and 'voice' as a writer through craft-based exercises and assessment.

      Critically competent in a core academic discipline of their award

      Students know and can critically evaluate and, where applicable, apply this knowledge to topics/issues within their majoring subject.

Prerequisites

Any 15 points at 100 level from CINE or ENGL, or
any 60 points at 100 level from the Schedule V of the BA.
