Description

The goal of this course is to equip students with the knowledge and skills to (i) recognise the acoustic and articulatory features of normal and disordered speech sounds, (ii) relate these to the structure and function of the articulatory mechanism, and (iii) transcribe normal and disordered speech using the IPA.

Assessment

Assessment Due Date Percentage  Description
Weekly tutorials 30% Weekly tutorials will assess students' understanding of the content of preceding lectures and give them practice in acoustic analysis with the Praat program, and in transcription of normal and disordered speech
Class test 02 Apr 2014 40% The first class test will assess students' understanding of the concepts of acoustic and articulatory phonetics.
Class test 04 Jun 2014 30% The second class test will assess students’ understanding of the concepts covered in term 2, and in the transcription of normal and disordered speech.
