This course aims to provide an advanced understanding of child development by focusing on issues and concerns that may affect children and families across multiple developmental contexts. Students will gain knowledge and research skills by undertaking a comprehensive literature review in an approved topic and applying contemporary research to a case study problem.
The objectives of the course are:To develop an advanced understanding of theory and research on child and adolescent development with an ecological perspective, taking into account individual, family, school and societal factors To develop a critical awareness of the multiple contexts and mechanisms of children’s development and an appreciation of the transactional influences of biological, familial and cultural factors in childhood and adolescence.To be able to apply the analytical and research skills learned to a range of developmental issues affecting children and adolescents.

This course will utilize readings from research articles, review articles, and chapters published in developmental journals and recently edited books. All readings will be made available for download and printing on the course Learn website.
