Design for online learning is grounded in the needs and context of learners and explores pedagogical approaches to online learning design that are culturally responsive and inclusive. The complex relationship between technology and pedagogy are explored in relation to the learners' contexts. Providing learners with a foundation in instructional design the course unpacks the instructional design process and introduces fundamental models, theories and tools relating to online learning. We engage with some of the most prevalent instructional design models and frameworks as we explore the role of the instructional designer. Learners needs and learning contexts are explored as we plan, design, develop and evaluate an online learning process in response to an educational challenge. The assessment in this course will be authentic and grounded in the students’ real-life contexts.
