Description

This professional practice course is compulsory for BTchLn students. It presents the opportunity for the student to apply, develop and demonstrate the theoretical and practical learning outcomes from College-based courses, in particular the co-requisite Professional Studies course, while under the professional supervision of a registered classroom teacher and a College lecturer.

Learning Outcomes

LEARNING OUTCOMES
The learning outcomes for this course are drawn from each student’s set of Curriculum and Professional Education courses, and match those of the co-requisite Professional Studies course.

By the end of this course successful students will have:
- Used a design process to plan for, implement, assess and evaluate whole class teaching in at least four essential learning areas.
- Planned for, implemented, assessed and evaluated children’s learning in the essential learning areas of English and Mathematics
- Developed constructive professional relationships with colleagues, parents and pupils
- Assumed full management of the learning of a whole class for at least six days.
- Used critical reflection skills to assess current and future professional needs and development.

Pass/Fail assessment applies to Professional Practice courses, in accordance with the College of Education assessment guidelines. The assessment is determined by the student’s Professional Studies lecturer following the collection, analysis and discussion of all information with the student at the end of the placement. This information includes the associate teacher’s written report and the observing lecturer’s written notes and verbal report. A summary statement is written in collaboration with the student as an outcome of the post-placement interview, and goals for the next placement identified. This summary statement, along with the student’s assessment for this course, is placed on the student’s record in the Registry. Course assessment will be moderated according to the qualification Moderation Action Plan.
