Description

Professional Studies is the core compulsory component of the BTchLn (Primary). It consists of a series of courses that are designed to assist students to identify and meet professional needs. This process establishes links between professional practice experiences, pedagogy and learning theory, taught by the University of Canterbury. These links are further supported by the knowledge and skills students' gain in Curriculum Studies and other Professional Education courses. EDPS261 is the introductory 200 level course in this series.

Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course, students will be able to:
1. Continue to demonstrate effective communication and presentation skills.
2. Plan for effective teaching and learning over a sequence of lessons.
3. Continue to develop and implement a range of teaching and learning strategies.
4. Clarify the existing ideas about the contribution of reflective practice to the teaching and learning process.
5. Demonstrate an increasing range of management strategies.
6. Continue to identify some aspects of the professional role of the teacher.
