This is one of three compulsory courses for the Certificate in Supporting Children’s Learning. It provides the opportunity for the participant to gain an understanding of the environmental factors that influence children’s learning from early childhood through to secondary school ages, and an appreciation of teaching strategies which support learning. Aspects of behaviour management, child development and the organisation of effective learning environments will be investigated. The health, legal and ethical requirements of workers in early childhood centres and schools will be addressed and students will be given an introduction to the New Zealand Curriculum Framework and the Early Childhood curriculum document Te Whaariki.
