This course is an introduction to life span development, from infants through to older adults. The psychosocial, cognitive and physical domains of development will be covered.
A study of growth and development is important as it provides the fundamental knowledge of developmental theories and how the theories can be applied when coaching athletes of all ages.
By the end of this course, students will be able to:Explain and debate some major controversies that exist within the human developmental framework (may include; nature v nurture, continuity or discontinuity, and deficit or difference)Demonstrate an understanding of influential developmental theory and discuss the implications of developmental theory in a coaching context.Demonstrate an understanding of the cognitive, psychosocial and physical development across the life span and discuss the implications of this from a coaching perspective.Demonstrate an understanding of models of moral development across the life span and discuss the implications to coaches.
