Description

This course will provide opportunity for students to develop knowledge of the interpersonal and intrapersonal communication skills necessary for effective coaching for a range of coaching contexts.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, students will be able to:
Exhibit an understanding of intra-personal and emotional literacy communication skills in relation to the students’ own coaching.
Extend students’ awareness of cultural and gendered communication differences.
Identify features of non-verbal and verbal communication
Demonstrate effective listening skills.
Demonstrate an understanding of assertiveness and apply this in a coaching context
Demonstrate effective ways of giving positive and negative feedback.
Demonstrate an understanding of the processes of problem solving and conflict resolution.
Identify ways to improve self-esteem.  
Demonstrate an ability to utilize reflective practice.
Identify factors associated with stress and explain a range of stress management strategies that will assist both the coach and athlete in given situations.
Discuss and evaluate techniques for anger management.
