Description

This course will develop technical pedagogical knowledge and skills applicable to coaching and learning in the sport environment. Students will demonstrate links between coaching theory and practice in a variety of practical coaching contexts.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, students will be able to:
Develop and articulate a coaching philosophy
Explain basic principles of learning including reflective practice techniques
Explain basic principles of motor skill learning including Classifying Motor Skills, identifying stages of learning and the importance of Selective Attention
Demonstrate an ability to structure content into learning sequences
Demonstrate an ability to utilize a coaching model appropriate to the learners’ needs
Demonstrate management techniques specific to the coaching and learning environment
Plan, implement and evaluate a training session that uses a Direct Style of coaching.
Demonstrate an understanding of the professional role of the coach.
