Description

This course is an introduction to epidemiological issues of sporting injuries as well as athletic taping for the prevention and management of sporting injuries.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, students will be able to:
Develop an overview of the mechanisms of sport injuries and systems used to classify them.
Identify primary and secondary injury and overuse injuries.
Demonstrate an understanding of the principles of diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation.
Identify specific risks for injuries caused by sport.
Describe the physiological effects of rest, ice, compression and elevation on injured tissue.
Analyse effects of anti-inflammatory drugs on injured tissue and their appropriate use.
Evaluate common causes of injures to head
Discuss functional anatomy and the general biomechanics of movement to the prevention and/or management of spinal injuries
Self-reflect on ability to competently a selection of joints.
