This course applies the principles of management to sport organisations and settings in New Zealand. It includes the pragmatic and technical skills needed for coaches in the effective management of people, club and sporting events.
This course applies the principles of management to sport organisations and settings in New Zealand. It includes the pragmatic and technical skills needed for coaches in the effective management of people, clubs and sporting events. For coaches to be effective, they must understand appropriate management principles and practices as they apply to sport teams, clubs and events in a New Zealand sporting context.
By the end of the course, students will be able to:Describe and analyse the structure of sport organisations in New Zealand.Examine and apply appropriate human resource management principles and associated theories.Understand and apply event management principles and practices.Discuss legal, ethical and moral issues related to sport management.Describe the roles of club administrators and related management practices.Evaluate sport marketing, fundraising and sponsorship issues.Develop techniques for effective strategic planning.
