Description

This is a 100 level compulsory course for the BTchLn which introduces students to selected theories and research on child development and their relevance to the diverse range of children within today's educational (early childhood and primary school) settings.

Learning Outcomes

1. Demonstrate a critical understanding of the basic premises of an array of theoretical perspectives to the study of developmental influences.
2. Show enhanced ability to suspend hasty or superficial judgments about diversity among children, instead be able to reflect on their life situations.
3. Identify ways in which they as teachers can use the information from this course to design effective teaching learning environments for all children

Timetable Note

There is a three day block course (April 22-24). This is very important, but talk with Elaine elaine.mayo@canterbury.ac.nz about how to compensate if you are unable to attend.

Assessment of this course will be achievement based. Grades (and descriptive comments) will be provided in accordance with College of Education Assessment Guidelines and the criteria for assessment provided at the beginning of the course
