Description

One in four children or adolescents will experience learning challenges, impairments and/or trauma that may affect their development and educational opportunities. This course explores the dynamic relationships between different developmental pathways and effective educational practices. Students will critically assess how personal beliefs, educational experiences, and social contexts shape learning.

Planning to major or minor in Education? Please keep in mind that EDUC103 is a required course for both qualifications.  

·         For those majoring in Education you need EDUC103, 45 points at the 200-level, and 60 points at the 300-level.  

·         For those minoring in Education, you need EDUC103 and at least 45 points at 200-level or above.

Learning Outcomes

1. Students will analyse the developmental course and impact of various impairments and developmental pathways on educational and psychosocial outcomes.
2. Students will critically examine and evaluate current issues and a range of discourses and perspectives on developmental pathways and challenges.
3. Students will identify and critically evaluate educational resources, teaching strategies and approaches to creating inclusive learning environments.

Prerequisites

30 points in EDUC, HLTH, HSRV, PSYC, SOWK, or
YACL, or
permission of the Head of School.
