This interdisciplinary course covers concepts related to multiple dimensions of building performance, including functional, economic and sustainability performance. It examines drivers of building design, including building regulations, and the language and objectives of architects, engineers, developers, owners, occupants and regulators. It also introduces collaboration and communication in multidisciplinary teams.The course covers the following topics:• Building functional, economic and environmental performance objectives and metrics• Building regulations• Building engineering physics• Building energy performance and carbon emissions• Building economic performance
A student who successfully completes this course should be able to apply multidisciplinary knowledge of building design to collaborate effectively with other design disciplines and project stakeholders in a building design project, through understanding:Key concepts related to functional, economic and environmental performance of buildings.Sustainability of buildings.Requirements of selected building regulations.
