Soil Liquefaction
Subject to approval of the Head of Department.
Lectures/Discussion sessions: 10 sessions (weekly), five in each term- Students will read papers/chapters and prepare for the discussion session (a period of about one week ahead of the session)- Each student will be a discussion leader twice (once in each term) course work- Each session will be 90 mins long

Overview and Aims The course aims to provide in-depth understanding and scrutiny of:- Conventional semi-empirical methods for liquefaction evaluation- Post-liquefaction phenomena and residual strength of liquefied soils- Theoretical (applied mechanics) approach for soil liquefaction problems- Effects of fines and stress state on liquefaction resistance- Peculiarities and controversies around assessment of soil liquefactionThere will be 10 discussion sessions, each 1.5 hour long. Each student will be in the role of a discussion leader twice explaining different concepts, and leading/moderating discussions. The lecturer will help moderate the session, steer the direction of the discussion and outline points of reference or major significance.
