Special Topic: Drainage Systems

Topics:

• Drainage system design
• Road drainage
• Drainage system monitoring

Drainage system design covers many disciplines, of which two are hydrology and hydraulics. In this course the hydrologic problem to determine the quantity and frequency of runoff, river flow and groundwater flow, as well as the hydraulic problem, the design of structures with the proper capacity to remove or divert water from properties, roads, car parks will be covered.

Learning Outcomes

-- Derive appropriate design storms and design flows for drainage design
-- Select appropriate drainage systems for a given drainage project
-- Design drainage systems
-- Explain the different types of monitoring systems
-- Use monitoring data for decision making

Prerequisites

Subject to approval of the Head of Department.
