Research Essay
The Research Essay provides an opportunity for B.A. (Honours) and first-year M.A. students to undertake an in-depth study of areas of special interest under the supervision of a staff member. If you are energetic, self-motivated, academically curious and have a desire to follow up a particular topic not otherwise available through course work, this may be the option for you. Students who enrol in ENGL480 in the first semester should have the essay completed by July 1. Those doing the essay in the second semester must complete it by November 1.

Students are accepted into ENGL442, ENGL480 or ENGL481 only when they have identified an appropriate topic and been assigned a supervisor. For this reason, if you are interested in enrolling for any of these courses you must discuss your plans with the Honours Coordinator, Dr Paul Millar, (paul.millar@canterbury.ac.nz) or another appropriate staff member as early as possible, but certainly well before enrolment week.
