Description

Illustration Mediums involves deep experimentation with media and processes for the creation of illustration. The matter of materials is approached with curiosity and openness for discovery, attending to the unexpected ways different media combine and alchemise to express emotion, atmosphere and story. The course will involve hands-on studio time engaging with a range of media, including ink, pencil, paint, crayons, digital, screen printing, collage, multi-media, and techniques for scanning, colour correction, colour palette and masking. We will also look closely at matter and media from different cultural perspectives and practices, both historical, traditional and contemporary. Emphasis will be given to students exploring and clarifying their unique artistic vision, understanding their authorial voice within textures and materials.

Learning Outcomes

Research and explore through investigation and risk taking the creative and communicative potential and possibilities of a range of tools and materials.

Develop and implement an individual approach to materials.

Examine and evaluate historical, traditional and contemporary approaches to mediums for illustration.

Critically analyse outcomes, approaches, ideas and methods to communicate effectively through mediums and modalities.

Propose, negotiate and independently pursue personal project themes.

Engage with the module to a professional level, committing the required amount of hours to the development of the body of work required, attending class, responding to feedback and contributing to studio sessions and workshops.

Permission of the Programme Director.
