The paper will examine key contemporary issues in finance and financial markets, including current changes, debates, and concerns, and their implications for business decisions and economic prospects. The paper aims to help students understand the impact of macroeconomics on capital markets. The course will integrate practical insights from industry practitioners and policymakers, supplemented by the latest academic research on selected topics. As economic conditions evolve, the topics will be updated accordingly. Potential topics for the paper may include financial regulation, ethics, and governance; modern banking and financial institutions; fintech and financial innovation; climate, clean energy and sustainable finance; and behavioural finance.
The objectives of the course are:1. To understand the main elements of crypto and the crypto ecosystem.2. To understand the fundamentals of machine learning.3. Have a practical understanding of payment systems4. Understanding of risk and term structure of interest rates, the theory of rational expectations and the efficient market hypothesis5. Analyze the structure, management, and regulation of financial institutions and banking industries.6. Evaluate the causes and implications of financial crises in various economies.7. Explain the role of central banks, the money supply process, and the tools of monetary policy used to manage the economy.
