The nature of the scientific method, planning research, defining objectives, writing proposals and workplaces, experimental design and analysis, statistical procedures using R, making inferences from analyses, drawing conclusions, scientific report writing.
This course is designed to assist students in planning research projects and in designing and analyzing appropriate experiments.The course is offered in both 1st and 2nd Semesters.
KnowledgeStudents will:know the biological and chemical processes giving rise to the properties of wood.have an advanced understanding the key factors determining wood properties in young trees.be familiar with the timber quality of the internationally most common plantation forest species.SkillsStudents will:be able to relate wood properties to the wood quality required by the wood processing industry.be able to take advantage of the opportunities (and be aware of the challenges) caused by the enormous variability of wood properties.ApplicationStudents will:get practical experience in assessing wood properties and draw conclusions from the analysis of the data.research and review current scientific and technical knowledge. present specialised scientific and technical topics in seminar and written formats.

The course is delivered via a mixture of online material on Learn and additional seminars notified as required. The seminars will cover the Philosophy of Science and Library resource skills modules.
