Description

This is the sixth course in a sequence of six French language acquisition courses offered by the school.

Introduction to different aspects of French civilisation to be discussed and analysed from a cultural and linguistic point of view. Advanced grammar, reading and discussion.

General Objectives:
To introduce students to more complex topics, (video)tapes, and discussions. To improve students’ competence in reading, writing, speaking and comprehension of French language and understanding of civilisation at an advanced level.

Specific Objectives:
To expose students to authentic French at an advanced level. To improve students’ confidence and understanding. To improve students’ grammar through the writing of essays, conversations and ateliers.

Methods:
Lectures, assignments, explanations and tests are in French. WebCT is used for a variety of purposes.

WebCT Access:
Students can study further through the internet and WebCT access to a variety of links (grammar, readings, discussions).

The assessment will comprise the best five out of ten assignments (45%), two written tests (20%), three short grammar tests (15%), and an oral examination comprising an exposé and a test (20%).
