Sediment Transport and Deposition
In an effort to encourage participation in class topics are organized so that responsibility for running the class alternates between the students and the lecturer. Critical thinking is encouraged and synthesizing when reading published papers so the first lecture in a week of a topic will introduce the details of sediment transport processes while the second lecture will be devoted to examples of depositional environments where each process occurs. A student will also get the opportunity to review a fellow student's paper in order to see what that is like. Then you will be able to revise your own paper based on that review. Finally, preparing a talk and speaking in front of a less threatening audience is always good practice.
Things expected for this course:1 or 2 20-minute presentations followed by questions on depositional environments1 paragraph describing your paper topic1 paper - ~10-15 pages of text on topic of choice, to be submitted and revised1 review of colleagues paper1 presentation of paper topic to class
This course will run in Term 4, commencing 4 September, with two 2-hour lectures per week in Room 210, Geology building. (Monday 9-11 am and Wednesday 9-11 am)
