Internships frequently asked questions

Q: How am I placed in an internship?
A: The internships are offered by a variety of organisations. So, usually we don’t know until just before the course begins what internships and projects will be offered. We then make an effort to place students with the best match for both them and the organisation.

Q: What assessments are there? The main assessments are a CV and cover letter, and a final report. You must also complete 100 hours in an intern organisation

Q: How does the organisation assess my performance as an intern?
A: This is done by the organisation using the form contained in the course outline.

Q: Is it likely that I will be employed in the same organisation after an internship?
A: Previous interns have had a variety of outcomes. Most have been employed (particularly those in GIS), some have been employed by the intern organisation, other have found employment with similar organisations elsewhere in NZ. Generally, we have found that interns are more likely to secure employment.
