Special Topic
HAZM408 will introduce geoscientific information systems (ArcGIS ArcView 9.3) to participants. After an introduction to software (including all available extensions) and its graphical user interface (GUI), the focus is on GIS-based analysis of geological topics like hazard assessment, remote sensing, geostatistic analysis and land use management. Lectures cover complete project workflow, i.e. data preparation (georeferencing, digitizing, attributing, reclassification, etc), analysis (raster calculation, statistical analysis, multicriteria analysis, weighting, etc.), visualization (2D, 3D, 4D) and distribution (layout, web publishing, etc).
Students successfully completing this course will be able to use GIS independently in project work.
Subject to approval of the Head of Department.
