Description

Introduction to the management of hearing impairment, with a focus on management in adults.

This course provides students with foundational knowledge of management of hearing impairment using evidence-based practice. Students will apply concepts relating to research design and methodology to the management of hearing impairment.

Goal of the Course
The goal of this course is to provide students with an understanding of the fundamental concepts in (1) the management of hearing impairment using evidence-based practice and (2) research concepts.

Upon successful completion of this course I will:

1. Apply theoretical models of healthcare to audiology. (Essay)
2. Evaluate pre-fitting factors for amplification for adults with hearing impairment. (Quiz)
3. Apply research concepts to audiology.  (Report)
4. Apply evidence-based practice to rehabilitative audiology. (Report)

Assessment

You have 3 assessments in this paper. Instructions and marking rubrics are provided on the course Ako/Learn site.

Essay (30%): You will write an essay-style paper demonstrating your ability to apply the concepts from weeks 1 – 4 to audiology. This essay is due on 31 March at 10 pm.

Quiz (30%): You will sit an online quiz covering the topics from weeks 5 – 7. The quiz will open on Monday, 2 May at 3 pm and will close on Monday, 2 May at 5 pm.

Report (40%): You will write a report demonstrating your ability to engage in evidence-based practice and apply the concepts from Term 2. The report is due during the examination period. Time and date to be determined after the examination schedule is published.
