Description

This course will provide an understanding of the broad range of ways in which the health of populations or societies can be promoted. Through personal reflection and synthesis of course material, students will deepen their understanding of key health concepts. Students will learn to design health promotion approaches that aligns with epidemiological and life-course evidence.

Learning Outcomes

Learning outcomes:
On successful completion of this course students will be able to:
1. Identify and describe the broad range of ways health promoters intervene to improve the health of populations and communities.
2. Describe and distinguish public health and life course conceptualisations in relation to health and health promotion.
3. Reflect on and critically appraise personal concepts of health, through the synthesis of (biological, social and cultural) health models, theories and health-related experiences.
4. Utilise epidemiological evidence and life course understandings to devise an appropriate and effective health promotion strategy.
5. Identify and describe Māori, Pacific and lay concepts of health and their impact on and implication for health promotion action.
