This course is designed to be an introduction to Health Education in school and community settings. Students will examine both the historical and contemporary underpinnings of Health Education. The course offers a strong focus on effective practice in Health Education, including recognition of determinants of health and how Health Education can be put to work to develop knowledge, understandings and skills in order to navigate the complexities of our 21st century world. Students have opportunities to put into practice key ideas from the course through session planning and facilitation.
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:1. Explain a range of concepts relating to current practice in Health Education.2. Critique pedagogical practices in Health Education.3. Explain and apply a range of effective pedagogical practices across Health Education contexts.4. Apply a range of effective inter and intra personal skills to enhance wellbeing.5. Explain culturally responsive practices in Health Education across settings and groups.
