Students gain an in-depth understanding of qualitative research through a focus on the philosophical underpinnings of qualitative research, common methodologies and approaches to analysing data in qualitative health research. Contemporary challenges in undertaking qualitative research are examined including participant recruitment, working with diverse populations, and rigour across the research process.
Upon successful completion of this course, students will have:1. Demonstrated a critical understanding of a qualitative methodology commonly adopted in health-related disciplines 2. Applied a critical understanding of the theory and practice of qualitative research to the design or analysis of a qualitative research project3. Applied a critical understanding of culturally responsive research to a qualitative research context4. Critically discussed the ethics of qualitative research, particularly with regard to participant recruitment, research methods, and dissemination of research.
