This course considers a range of explanatory theories emanating from a range of disciplines that contribute to current understandings of gender, crime, deviance, social theory and social control. Theories and constructions of crime, deviance, violence and gender will be discussed as these relate to gendered experiences within and without the criminal justice system.
By the end of the course you should be able to demonstrate:Understanding of the nature of social construction of violence, crime, deviance and gender as well as how these intersectCritical understanding of formal and informal social responses to violent behaviourKnowledge of human service systems and organisations that respond to violence and victims
This course will provide students with an opportunity to develop the Graduate Attributes specified below:

30 points at 200 level in HSRV, orany 15 points at 200-level in HSRV & 30 points at 200 level from Schedule C (BSW) or Schedule V (BA) or Schedule C or E (BCJ). Students with at least 60 points in appropriate courses may enter with permission of HSRV Programme Coordinator.
