Description

This course is one of individual study under personal supervision. It entails carrying out research over a seven month period, and writing a report about how and why the research was conducted, what was found and the implications of these findings. The course is designed for students completing the B.Com(Hons) degree in accounting and information systems.

Learning Outcomes

Having engaged with a question, issue, circumstance or problem to be researched, a student must submit an individual research report to demonstrate that
  they can engage in significant research independently and with competence
  they can exercise scholarly judgement
  they understand the literature directly related to your research topic
  they can find and evaluate documentary information
  they can make critical use of published work and source materials
  they understand appropriate methods and techniques and can apply them; and you can justify their use, compared with some alternative methods about which examiners may ask
  they can gather data, process or interpret them and apply them in relation to concepts, ideas, theories, etc.
  they can present ideas, data, findings and contributions to knowledge clearly in a suitably organised and documented way
  they can defend your use of methods of data collection and analysis, whether these have been chosen by you or recommended by your supervisor
  they have the potential for higher research, such as a thesis degree (MCom, PhD).
