This course builds upon JAPA 152 by completing the coverage of basic grammar in conversational Japanese and by moving on to the study of modern narrative and polemical prose.  Emphasis is placed upon reading and writing skills, and students improve their aural comprehension in the language laboratory.  There are four hours of lectures plus one language laboratory tutorial per week throughout the year.  Written exercises are assigned frequently.
