An introduction to ethical theories and their applicability to legal practice. The concept of a profession and the duties and responsibilities of lawyers.
An introduction to the professional and ethical responsibilities of lawyers in the practice of law. The course will include a philosophical analysis of the roles and functions of lawyers and the role of the law society. The course will also address the ethical and legal duties owed by lawyers to their clients such as the duties of loyalty, confidence, competence and disclosure. The duties of an advocate to the court and his or her client will also be addressed.

The course commences with a one day seminar:Monday 3 December 2007 from 9.00am-12.00noon and 1.00-4.00pm.

The course assessment will consist of a three-hour, Open Book, test and an essay.The essay is due by 4.00pm on Thursday, 10 January 2008.
