This course will explore the grammar and linguistics of Te Reo Maori. We will be studying Maori phonology (sound system), morphology (word structure), and syntax (sentence structure), and also learning more about the history of the language, alongside its social context in Aotearoa New Zealand.
By the end of the course, students will:Understand the sound system, word structure, and sentence structure of Te Reo Māori.Understand the language history and socio-linguistic context of Te Reo Māori.Be able to apply their knowledge of Te Reo Māori linguistics and grammar to linguistic material.Understand the relationship between Te Reo Māori and other Polynesian languages.Understand and analyse different approaches to understanding the grammar of Te Reo Māori.
