Description

The arrival of Europeans: explorers, missionaries and traders, the Musket Wars, origins and signing of the Treaty of Waitangi, New Zealand Wars, prophet movements, guerrilla warfare, alienation of land. Twentieth century recovery: World War 2, the Maori Battalion, urbanisation. The new renaissance: the Treaty in society today, new identities, gangs, Rastafarianism, Christianity, hip hop, kapa haka, sport, business, fashion, education. Current issues: leadership, corporate tribes, governance, biculturalism - multi-culturalism, race vs needs, one law for all, Maori radio and television.
