Description

Introduction to calculus, trigonometry and algebra. Emphasis on setting up mathematical models of problems, solving them and interpreting the solutions. Applications to the physical, life and earth sciences as well as to commerce and the humanities.

This occurrence of the course is for approved online students only. On-campus students should enrol in the (C) occurrence of this course.

MATH101 covers the basic ideas of algebra, functions and their graphs, trigonometry, limits,
and calculus. We introduce the ideas of setting up mathematical models of problems, solving
them and interpreting the solutions. A good pass (Grade B or above) in MATH101 is
recommended for progression to MATH102 or EMTH118.

To pass the course you must:
obtain at least 50% overall; and
obtain at least 40% on the final exam; and
pass all five core skills modules.
